Basic & Advanced Behavior Management Techniques
Whenever possible, basic behavior management techniques are employed to ensure the safety of your child. Pediatric Dentists are also specially trained in the following advanced management techniques:
Nitrous oxide (N2O) or laughing gas, is colorless, sweet-smelling, and nonirritating and when administered will create a state of mild sedation. This technique is advantageous for those patients that experience mild anxiety and fear when visiting the dentist. This technique's use is dependent upon the level of anxiety of the patient.
Our doctors may recommend the use of sedation for:
- fearful or anxious children for whom basic behavior guidance techniques have not been successful
- children who cannot cooperate due to lack of psychological or emotional maturity, or disability
- children who are in need of extensive dental treatment and/or surgery
- children for whom the use of sedation may protect the developing psyche and/or reduce medical risk
Our doctors have been specially trained in the use of various sedation techniques and follow the strictest monitoring guidelines to provide safe and effective treatment for your child. Deep sedation and treatment under general anesthesia are also available.
